Save Rose Creek

Our vision is for lower Rose Creek to be an open space park providing recreational and learning opportunities and a clean, healthy, aesthetically pleasing environment for residents, visitors, businesses, and native plants and animals, while serving as an accessible link for bicyclists and pedestrians to move between Rose Canyon Park, Marian Bear Park, Mission Bay Park, and surrounding communities.

Join us at the SDNHM Water Days on November 1

The San Diego Natural History Museum (SDNHM) has a great exhibit going these days called Water. It's a great exhibit so check it out. On November 1st, there will a SDNHM Family Day focusing on water and the Friends of Rose Creek will be there along with other groups working in the Rose Creek Watershed from 10 AM until 5 PM, so stop on by and learn all about the Rose Creek watershed.

From the SD Natural History Museum website:

"All life depends on it—including ours...
For centuries, the seasonal waters of the San Diego River supported native Kumeyaay communities. People continued to settle near the river and the region’s population swelled with new arrivals. Local rivers and aquifers supplied all of their water until the early 1940s.

And today?
In San Diego, we import 80–90% of our water from the Colorado River and northern California. An estimated 19% of California’s energy use relates to water collection, transportation, and treatment. Using water = using energy = CO2 emissions = climate change

Water: A California Story features photos, maps, video, and hands-on activities, natural history specimens, live animals, and more. Tips and resources for water conservation on a local and regional level are also shared. "

There's an online photo exhibit highlight California water and even a photo or two of Rose Creek taken by one of our volunteers.
